Gamma String Tension Tester

Disclaimer: this device will not read or tell you the exact tension of your strings. The purpose is to measure tension loss over time by a percentage. The reading you get from this will essentially be a benchmark from the present so it’s advised to measure right after you pick up your freshly strung racquet. Write down the reading and then after you play you can measure again to see how much tension loss has occurred. For example if you get a reading of 50 after a re-string, and a reading of 45 after 2 sessions; you have lost 10% of the tension. To be clear the drop of 5 points does not equal 5 pounds of tension lost, but rather 10% proportionately to when the racquet was newly strung. Once you get the hang of it, this device is very useful in tracking the lifespan of your strings which helps players keep their racquet performing at the best level.
