Merchant of Tennis caught up with Benjamin Sigioun to chat about his aspirations and what he loves about the the game of tennis.

Here is what he had to say:

Q: When and where did you start playing tennis?

A: I started playing tennis at the age of 5 years old with my father at the courts of Stanley Park in Vancouver.

Q: When and how did you decide that you wanted to make a playing tennis your career?

A: Since I was a little boy actually. I have always loved the game and each successful result motivates me for more.

Q: You have not played any competitive matches since January, are you recovering from an injury?

A: Unfortunately in the warm up tournament for the junior Australian Open this year I suffered a grade 3 ankle sprain. It’s been a tough road to full recovery, but I’m getting better each day.

Q: How would you describe you tennis game?

A: Aggressive but solid. Always looking to dictate the points with many weapons.

Q: What is one aspect of your game that you’re continuously trying to improve?

A: My serve. It’s a really important shot to get you cheap points and bail you out of trouble.

Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of so far in your young career?

A: Luckily for me there are several to choose from. It’s probably winning the Junior Davis Cup, no words can describe playing for your country and to win that tittle was just amazing. I’m also very proud of my results on the ITF junior tour which has lead me to a best ranking of 4.

Q: Have you set goals for this year and what are they?

A: It’s always important to set goals and be ambitious. My main goals are to stay healthy and improve my fitness. As well as win a junior grand slam and start having consistent strong results on the professional tour.
