Description

Roger worked tirelessly with Wilson designers across the globe to breathe new life into the iconic Pro Staff. Every detail was pored over to create a racquet that wants to be held and provides an edge for players bold enough to pick one up. Although the specifications and construction are the exact same as the first generation of the Pro Staff RF97, Roger and Wilson have given this new version a sleek “stealth-like” cosmetic redesign. Its matte black paint job has a unique texture that Federer requested in order to make the racquet easier to adjust in the hand. All of the racquet’s decals have been laser engraved into the frame, which also contributes to its minimalistic design and unmatched feel.

The Pro Staff RF97 Autograph is a Pro Staff through and through, but updated for the rigours of the modern power game. The classic Pro Staff traits are all there: head light balance, perimiter weighting system (PWS), braided graphite layup and thin beam. However, this Pro Staff has a larger head (97 square inches) then has been used on past Pro Staffs and is much bigger than the 90 square inch head Roger used for most of his illustrious career. The larger head makes for an increasesed sweetspot and easier access to power. Both things Roger was looking for in his new racquet.

Weighing in at 12 ounces unstrung, this is still very much a players racquet designed for advanced players that are taking big cuts at the ball. The hefty weight means this racquet is extremely stable from all areas of the court. Not surprisingly, it also has great feel. Though it is more dampened than the Pro Staffs of the past, there is still plenty of feedback that should appeal to the Pro Staff traditionalist.

The Pro Staff RF97 Autograph is sure to garner the same legendary status as the player it was designed for.
