Babolat has redesigned the AeroPro Drive for 2016 and renamed it the Pure Aero. Making over your best-selling racquet (also likely the industry's best selling racquet) is a risking proposition, however the risk has seemed to pay off as the Pure Aero is more spin friendly, more powerful and more comfortable than it's predecessor.
It's not only the look and name that has changed with this update to the AeroPro Drive, Babolat has also introduced a couple of new technologies that impacts the way the racquet play. In an effort to make the racquet even more aerodynamic, Babolat has introduced the second generation of their Aeromodular technology. Aeromodular 2 uses varying profiles at the throat, shaft and head to create less air drag and thus create more racquet head speed. Both the Woofer grommet system and Cortex shock dampening system are also built in to up the aerodynamic factor even more. Babolat also adds FSI Spin (Frame String Interaction) technology into the mix. Featuring wider string spacing between cross strings 5-12, FSI Spin technology results in more ball bite. It also features oblong grommets to increase string snapback and even more spin potential. These technologies combined add power and spin to a racquet that already had ample amounts of both.
Not surprisingly Babolat has kept most of the specs on this update the same as its predecessor the Aero Pro Drive. The combination of the 100 square inch head, 10.6 ounce (300 grams) unstrung weight, 7 point head light (320 mm) balance and 16 x 19 string pattern is definitely a wining mix of specifications. Producing a racquet that is both user friendly for intermediates and responsive enough for advanced players. Once noticeable difference between this and the previous version is that this new version feels slightly softer and more comfortable. This is likely down to the increased spacing between the cross string producing a softer more lively stringbed.
With the Pure Aero Babolat has succeeded in offering a new and improvement version of an already great racquet. Though its too early to tell if this is the best Aero racquet yet, the early indicators seem to suggest that being the case.

By adding tungsten into the graphite frame, it provides excellent stability at ball impact. The additional rigidity obtained through this technology allows for more precision or power according to the construction.

A CDS (Cortex Dampening System) interface that supplies useful information to the player. By strategically placing the cortex between the handle and throat of the racquet, this "Smart Vibration Dampening" system distinguishes between the good and bad vibrations. This allows for greater feel and control upon each strike.This is now built into the Pure Aero 2016 and is not visible from the outside of the racquet.
Woofer technology built directly into the mid-section of the new frame strategically shaped to reduce wind drag and boost swing speed, offering an average of 11% less drag.
A broader weave in the string bed and an oblong opening between the grommets at the top and the bottom of the head. Wider spaces between cross strings 5-12 for more ball bite and higher RPMs.
