The Merchant of Tennis was incorporated in 1990 by Pam and Rob Horwood and operated as a pro shop in a downtown Toronto tennis club.

     While teaching at the club, we mastered the art of stringing and professionally fitting clients with racquets and footwear.  During this time we saw a need in the market for a specialty racquet shop that offered a high level of service for the avid player. 

     In 1992, The Merchant of Tennis opened its flagship store in mid-town Toronto.  Our goal was to meet a growing demand for quality tennis merchandise and professional service outside of the pro shop environment.  In 1998, The Merchant of Tennis opened its second store in the heart of Oakville, Ontario. This store caters to dedicated tennis enthusiasts from both the West and South West region of the province.

     We work hard at the grassroots level to reach out to our clients through demo and charity events, along with sponsored adult and junior tournaments.  Junior tennis has been a strong focus within our company and we have proudly sponsored Team Ontario for the last 10 years.  We are currently the preferred retailer of the Ontario Tennis Association offering discounts to members on a monthly basis.  In 2005, The Merchant of Tennis served as the official retailer of Canadian Davis Cup match which was held at the Rexall Centre, home of The Rogers Cup.

     A company is only as good as its people and we are proud to say most of our staff has been on board for over 10 years.  We are fortunate to have some of the best racquet stringers in Canada.  Together we have a combined 50 years in teaching tennis and 75 years in stringing racquets. 

     In 2004, The Merchant of Tennis launched its membership program, providing clients with the best value in stringing and tennis ball purchases, along with year round discounts.  As a specialty shop, we strive to maintain the highest quality merchandise and up-to-date technology from over 50 different manufacturers.  Excellent service, knowledgeable staff, and innovative programs contribute to the personal buying experience for each client.  Whether you are a touring pro, serious club player, or a beginner, we would love to share our passion for tennis with you.
